Article Snippet: Briefly, excised hearts from 7–9 week female and male mice were rapidly mounted on a modified Langendorff apparatus (HSE-HA perfusion systems, Harvard Apparatus, Holliston, Mass) for retrograde aortic perfusion at a constant pressure of 80 mm Hg with oxygenated (95% O 2 , 5% CO 2 ) Krebs-Henseleit solution consisting of (mM) 25.0 NaHCO 3 , 118.5 NaCl, 4.0 KCl, 1.2 MgSO 4 , 1.2 NaH 2 PO 4 , 1.5 CaCl 2 , and 11.2 glucose, with pH equilibrated to 7.4.
